DUBOIS — Brandon Evans and Max Condon teamed up for a six-hitter and James Zimmerman whacked a two-run home run as Clearfield leapfrogged DuBois into second place in the Jefferson County Legion League with a 5-3 victory at Showers Field Tuesday evening.
Manager Sid Lansberry\’s Chiefs are 12-4 with home games against Reynoldsville Wednesday and Thursday at the Clearfield Area High School Sports Complex. DuBois fell to 12-5 with one game to play. Punxsutawney is in first place at 13-3 but would have to lose to both Curwensville and Gortech for the Chiefs to have a shot at the regular season championship.
Evans gave up two runs and four hits in three innings, striking out five. Condon held the hosts to a single run and two hits over the final four frames to notch the win. He struck out four.
Zimmerman\’s homer gave Clearfield a temporary lead in the third, but DuBois countered with a pair of runs. The Chiefs tallied with single runs over the next three innings, DuBois misplays contributing to all of them.
Adam Jury had half of Clearfield\’s six hits, including an RBI single in the sixth. Trey Wallace and Andrew Janocko each had a single.
Nick Wruble, who had beaten the Chiefs twice this season, was the loser.
Clearfield is 18-6 overall.
