Conditon improves for girl involved in U.S. 322 accident

WOODLAND – The condition of the 10-year-old girl involved an a two-car accident Friday morning in Bradford Township has been upgraded to fair. Rayanna Kavelak of Clearfield was listed as critical but stable yesterday.

The girl’s mother, Patrica “Trish” Kavelak, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 322 at about 10:20 a.m. yesterday when a vehicle operated by Isabella Snyder, 78, of Boalsburg crossed the center line, hitting the Kavelak vehicle head-on.

Kavelak and her daughter were flown from the scene to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. Kavelak was seen at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Presbyterian Hospital, but information about her condition was not available. Kavelak’s injuries at the scene were listed as moderate.

Snyder was reportedly trapped inside her vehicle for about one hour before she could be freed from the wreckage. She was transported to Clearfield Hospital by Clearfield Emergency Medical Services. She was pronounced dead at the hospital’s emergency room at 11:55 a.m.

All three people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts.

Police were assisted at the scene by Lawrence Township Fire Co. No. 1, Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Fire Co., Clearfield EMS, fire police, the state Department of Transportation and Lawrence Township Police.
